Beijing was completely exhausting in terms of work. I believe that we actually went where angels feared to tread and from the mouth of my boss himself, that was absolutely the last time we would be doing any work for this group. Sometimes, all the money in the world can't make up for human dignity.
It was mostly hotel, dinner, hotel but we managed to get out on the last night and had a really great dinner at Hou Hai. I am continually amazed at the amount of effort the Chinese put into food presentation. Marlene brought us to this lovely pseudo-fusion restaurant and we had an amazing tom yam beef dish which was just on the right side of spicy and some boiled chicken herbal soup which warmed our very-chilled bones. Check out the omelettes though... I can't imagine layering each slice so intricately without the entire thing just falling to pieces.
While we were walking along Hou Hai, we spotted these strong neon green beams which looked like incredibly long light sabers but were actually powerful laser pointers and the peddlers were beaming these directly into the sky. The throw was simply out of this world; it was a foggy and cloudy night so the light beams shone like some laser show display. Needless to say, the boss HAD to buy some. Which was OK, until he presented one to the boyfriend when we got back to Singapore so guess who has been putting up with random laser shows around the eastern part of Singapore? I swear, if that thing ever hits me in the face, I'll throw it straight into the chute, S$300 or not!
Pictures of us at some R&B club in Beijing - I must say that the locals really know how to party, though thank goodness not as wild as the Shanghai party scene. I have never gone to a club wearing a turtleneck, sneakers and a cap but at -3 degrees C, vanity was simply overruled.
And when I got back to Singapore, the boyfriend and I went out with his family for a good meal at Amigos. Yum yum! I missed him soooo much in Beijing but at a whooping $0.60 per min, we made a rule to keep communications to 5 minutes a day. The good news is, the boyfriend missed me as much too that he allowed me to fart under the blankets at night with minimal complaints from him. I thought it was a pretty fair trade-off, for all of the 3 days his generosity lasted. And yes, in the spirit of Christmas, I threw caution to the wind and permed my habitually rebonded hair. Just thought I'd try something new, but am still getting mixed reviews on that decision. My dad has taken to calling me grizzly bear; not my favourite nickname at that moment.
I'm off with the boyfriend to meet Glenn and Clarence now. By the way... I miss my ninjas terribly!
